~Hi everyone~
I wanted to share a bit about unhelpful thinking patterns. Unhelpful thinking patterns can strongly influence how we feel, behave, and respond to stress.
These patterns may include catastrophizing, or automatically expecting the worst; all-or-nothing thinking, where situations are viewed as complete successes or failures; overgeneralizing one negative experience into a belief that things will “always” go wrong; mind-reading, or assuming we know what others are thinking; and discounting the positive, where accomplishments or good experiences are minimized. Other common patterns include excessive self-blame, focusing only on mistakes, and treating feelings as facts.
Over time, these habits can reinforce symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma-related conditions, and low self-esteem.
Learning to identify, question, and reframe these thoughts can reduce emotional distress, improve coping, and help people respond to challenges in healthier and more balanced ways. Changing our thinking does not mean ignoring real problems or forcing positivity—it means developing a more accurate, compassionate, and flexible perspective that can support meaningful recovery. I hope reading about this is helpful to you in your mental wellness journey.
